My first week of classes went great and I am excited for all of them to pick up a bit. This weekend we are traveling to Lodz for studio, the train ticket costed pl 15, 48 or a little under $4. The exchange rate is beyond belief here. I was also able to purchase my 3 month transit pass to travel throughout the city by bus, tram and metro, you can get just about anywhere with it and some walking!
This semester I am taking studio, an urban design studio, a water coloring, a hand drawing, then history of Polish architecture & town planning plus a language and history course. I am most excited about the water color course and have picked up my supplies already for the class on Friday. Sunday I had the experience of doing laundry and since our dorm doesn't have a dryer I opted to try a laundromat, they are much different here than at home. Most only offer a few machines of varying sizes and each is priced according to size and water temperature, rather than row after row of both washers and dryers. Because our dorm doesn't have great wifi I've been doing some coffee shop hopping to get some internet access and it has been an experience too! Some thing different from home is that most places have codes that they print onto their receipts for bathroom use. In other places you have to pay to use them whether you are a customer or not. Below are a few photos from this week!

So everyone made it here by Sunday as planned, we had one delayed and missed flight in the group, but everyone made it safe and sound. Friday, the first day, those who arrived were not jet lagged because of night flights, despite the time difference. We rode the city bus across the city with our new found friend Ola, a Polish student, we took the luggage, all 10 or 11 pieces on the bus. After we settled in a bit we ventured out and found a market to get food at, ate at KFC, went back to the airport and picked up one more student, had drinks to celebrate our arrival and went to bed. Saturday, one more student arrived and we explored the city some more. Once we got some more groceries we came back home and made Family Dinner consisting of pierogies with potatoes, sauerkraut and berries. Sunday, we picked up two more students and met Weronika, Paulina and Aleksandra all Polish students. Sunday, also my 21st birthday, we had cake and some drinks. Monday after our Urban Design Studio, we traveled to Old Town and here are some pictures from that excursion. We also went to dinner at Manekin, a famous crepe place that offers dinner crepes and pancakes...soooo good! Afterwards, a few of us had drinks at a bar with our professor. Today we had studio with our Polish friends and learned we have a project in the countryside, outside of Warsaw in Łódź. Łódź is a city in central Poland, which is a former textile-manufacturing hub.
